Marie-Louise Oschatz
The Chilean-German conductor Marie-Louise Oschatz is a graduate of the Academy for Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna, where she majored in conducting. From 1987 until 1992 she was the conductor of the chamber orchestra Wiener Ensemble, an ensemble specializing in the music of the 19th and 20th centuries. After that she was the special music assistant to Fabrizio Ventura, the principal conductor at Stadttheater Biel in Switzerland. In 1994 she was invited to be Music Director for the production of two operas at an annual Opera festival in Austria, the Österreichische Donaufestwochen. In 1995, this talented artist founded the Ensemble Helios 18, an orchestra whose sole raison dêtre lies within the interpretation of the music written during the 18th Century, performed exclusively on period instruments. Apart from her busy conducting activities, Miss Oschatz is also a musicologist, again with the focus on 18th Century compositions. Recent European performance reviews have recognized this extraordinary talent and Marie-Louise Oschatz is now one of the worlds very few female conductors to have been acknowledged as a budding master interpreter of 18th Century music.
