Paul Grindlay

 

British born Canadian bass/baritone Paul Grindlay has pursued advanced vocal studies at the Banff Centre, the Carmel Bach Festival, the Steans Institute of the Ravinia Festival, and the Britten-Pears School. In 1997 he was the recipient of a Canada Council grant which allowed him to pursue opera and oratorio studies across North America.

Mr. Grindlay, who has a degree in Music from the University of British Columbia, has performed with many respected ensembles including the Vancouver Bach and Chamber Choirs, the Pacific Baroque Orchestra, the Vancouver Cantata Singers, the Portland Baroque Orchestra, and the Prince George Symphony.

Since moving to Calgary, he has appeared with the renowned Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, the Kingston Symphony, the Toronto Chamber Society, the Toronto Consort, the Arbor Oak Trio, the Vancouver Chamber Choir, the Carmel Bach Festival, the American Bach Soloists, the Ottawa Choral Society, the Alberta Baroque Ensemble, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and Pro Coro Canada. He has recorded Purcell, Buxtehude and Charpentier for NAXOS Records and has appeared in the 1998 Opera Atelier production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro in Tokyo, Japan, as well in heir production of Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona. 

His last recent European engagement was in Vienna, Austria where he was featured in some 20 acclaimed performances with the Wiener Kammeroper of Gluck’s opera The Pilgrims of Mecca.

He also performed with Canada's Te Deum Singers in one of the most positively reviewed Messiah performances in the city of Hamilton ever.

Another major project for the current season is an engagement with the Kingston Symphony in Haydn's The Creation and a guest appearance in the Sussex, United Kingdom, where he will sing in Mozart's Requiem.
