Robert de Vrij is one of Canada's most versatile and talented young baritones. He has performed extensively in Canada, Italy and NewYork City, in a repertoire that encompasses both grand opera and operetta. Recent performances include the role of Guglielmo in Cosi fan Tutte for Opera Mississauga, the title role in Gianni Schicchi for the JHS Opera Company, the roles of the 1st Scientist and Cardinal Meyerhof in the world premiere of The Leviathan Hook with Opera Anonymous (Toronto), Germont in La Traviata for the Summer Opera Lyric Theatre (Toronto), Marcello in La Bohème and Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera for the JHS Opera Company (Toronto). He has also essayed the roles of Gabriel von Eisenstein for the Toronto Operetta Theatre's touring production of Die Fledermaus, Il Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore and Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro for The University of New York on tour in Italy, and Il Barbiere di Seviglia for The Long Island Opera in New York. Additionally, Mr. de Vrij has sung the leading baritone roles in eleven of Gilbert & Sullivan's operettas with various companies in Ontario, has performed the national anthem at both Maple Leaf Gardens and Toronto's SkyDome, and has been featured on City TV and CHIN Radio and Television. Performances last season include the role of Julian in La Verbena de la Paloma for the Toronto Operetta Theatre, Don Giovanni for the Royal Conservatory of Music Opera (Toronto),and Enrico Ashton in Lucia di Lammermoor with the JHS Opera Company, while most recently he sang the role of Ezio in Verdi's opera Attila.
